More about Jon Buckley

Born in Birmingham, England, Jon Buckley started his career as a professional musician in Pretoria in 1991. While writing and composing pop and rock songs for artistes like Jo Day, The New Academics, Toxic Shame and Saron Gas, Jon embarked on a highly successful career in jingle writing working with clients such as MTN, Coca-Cola, South African Breweries, BMW, Nissan and Nestlé.

 

Jon’s compositions in the ad industry won him numerous awards at the well-known Loerie Awards, Cannes Film Festival and New York Awards. At the same time, Jon wrote, composed and produced music for television programmes like 50/50, Angel’s Song, Backstage and Scandal.

 

In 2009 Jon’s first collaboration with Jan Blohm on the groundbreaking album, 7 Jaar, resulted in a SAMA (South African Music Award). A few years later Jon produced Jan Blohm’s acclaimed album, Ruby.

 

Since Jon and Jan combined their expansive range of musical and technical talents to produce a new wave of South African music setting higher standards for songwriting and production, while maintaining a unique homegrown sound.

 

After Blomhuis closed its doors, Jon has emerged with more experience, skills and a better understanding of Afrikaans music as a whole, and has been able to add this knowledge-base to his current and future productions.

 

Jon is currently freelancing at various studios with a diverse cross-section of solo artistes, bands and even live venues.
